Elvis Presley in the army

The set of 56 photos, taken by Time photographers James Whitmore and Al Fenn in 1960, was published on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Elvis Presley's birth (January 8, 1935 - January 8, 2013).
In March 1958, when he was at the peak of his career, Elvis Presley had to serve two years in the army in Germany. His monthly income also dropped from 100,000 USD (a huge amount of money at that time) to 78 USD.
Time magazine said that the most famous music star on the planet at that time had adapted very well to the military environment. In the army, Elvis Presley trained very disciplined, hard-working and ready to fulfill all assigned requests.
The young Elvis Presley was also respected by his teammates at that time when he won a black belt in karate.

After completing his military service, Elvis Presley proved that he continued to maintain his "throne" as the king of rock 'n roll.
